What is an Information System?
An information system is an assembly of hardware, software, data, procedures, and people that produces information.
Kean University's implementation of using information systems has proven to be effective in the Career Services Department. We are focusing on an information system called College Central.Information Systems and KCS
College Central is an information system that many universities use to connects job seekers to entry-level jobs and internships. College Central uses a Job Agent tool that finds the user internships and jobs based on job type, degree, major, and job location. KCS uses this information system to aid them in their operations.

Hardware
Hardware is the physical component make up of a computer. Kean Career Services uses Dell desktop computers, Dell laptops, iPhones, and Android cell phones.
Software
The application Software that Career services use is Microsoft Word and Canva in particular to generate flyers that are to be posted on College Central with college central information on them. Software is what performs a service or function that's a program and can be used on a computer.
Data
Data consists of accurate, relevant and timely information. It is what is stored by a computer from variables and facts that are collected and analyzed together. On College Central, jobs and career resources that are posted by companies and by career services is considered data . This includes the location, information and students that may visit on the website.
Security
For Security, Kean Career Services allows all the staff including graduate assistant, directors, and student workers to have access to usernames and passwords. In particular the back end of College central where jobs are posted by Career Services and employers,to approve job postings and companies that register to post. The staff also has access to Kean career and internship email accounts and marketing tool sites that are used. There is only one set username and password that is used among the staff.
KCS and Social Media
The Social Media providers that Kean Career Services uses are Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.

Developing an Effective SMIS
PLAN DEVELOPMENT:
The goal with KCS Instagram page is to reach more the students, to inform them and communicate the news and updates. The metric used to measure the page is brand awareness (followers growth rate) and the target audience is the students and alumni population. The value Kean is trying to provide to the followers is the power of information and involvement. KCS interacts with its followers through comments and personal messages. The page administrator analyzes the data monthly in measuring the changes in numbers of interactions and new followers.
